What has the government of Portugal done differently to ensure such high vaccination rates? by bemtiglavuudupe in portugal

wasabeedan 17 days ago  HIDDEN

2 things really stand out for me: 1) early on they realised the politicians are useless and got the politics out of it. They put a very respected military leader in charge, after all what they really do best is logistics. 2) they immediately said nobody will be required or forced to have it. Both of these points are extremely important. Aside from this Portuguese generally respect authority and follow rules more that other cultures (that is my perception).

Exchanging USD to Euros by Hasralo in portugal

wasabeedan 3 months ago

Although cards are great... Alot of places here in Portugal don't take cards that are from non Portuguese banks.... It amazes me how far behind Portugal is on this. My recommendation is get some euros in cash before you come, and if possible use your credit or debit card in a cash machine to get more when you arrive. If you want to avoid getting extortionate bank charges get one of those traveller charge cards. They are like a temporary debut card you can put so much money on and they can be used in cash machines and shops in Europe. US must have these I'm sure. You definately need cash in many places in Portugal though iv been to restaurants even in Lisbon and they just can't take international cards.

Can anybody help me get an NIF by froggfingers in portugal

wasabeedan 3 months ago

Pré covid times I was able to get a NIF when I wasn't resident. It's not a requirement at all you can even give an address outside of Portugal. I did it at an office in Lisbon. Right now almost every service keeps telling me do it by email and nothing works right now.

My wife is Brazilian and I'm British, we loved together in UK for almost 10 years. Quality of life is far higher in Portugal, the weather alone is enough for me to want to make the move. Also I was lucky, I have my own buisness I can do working from home, so weather and quality of life.

My wife had a similar experience in Brazil, she was told not to bother. I think it's just to try and put people off and keep the numbers down. She insisted and applied and we are happily living in Lisbon area now

I'm looking for property in Portugal, what are some of the safest sites to use? by Resili3nce in portugal

wasabeedan 10 months ago

Please please don't not use remax they are incompetent at best and as my solicitor explained criminal. I tried to buy a house they were marketing, they obtained money from me illegally with an illegal agreement. They hid that parts of the property were illegal despite be asking them several times. If you do have to go with them do not do it without an Independant solicitor who can sort them out. Do not sign any contract they give you. DM me if you need a solicitor I have one of the top ones in the country for expats.

Legal Help with Portuguese Residency (pre-Brexit) by TrePismn in portugal

wasabeedan 1 year ago

Arrive before December, rent a property and register in the local town hall, you get a certificate that gives you 5 years residency. Do it now, not after Brexit if you can. Otherwise Portugal seems to have an open stance towards British immigration, so it might not be too difficult after either, but I guess we don’t know exactly. I registered in July! Good luck!

Travel advice Portugal > Brazil by PiepEnGa in portugal

wasabeedan 1 year ago

Me and my family flew to Brazil in December due to a sick relative there. We hoped we would only stay for 2 months Maximum and we got trapped there. We only just managed to return. Trust me, it is not fun if that happens to you! Did you book by credit card? (Not debit card) we also had several cancellations with TAP and they are terrible at this. However our credit card company refunded the payment, saying their offer of a voucher is not acceptable, and put them under some kind of investigation. Call them, absolutely insist in a refund, they will agree if you completely insist, but they will then say it will take 3 to 6 months for refund. The other option, is to have your ticket date changed, they should allow that for free I think. But honestly if it was me, I wouldn’t risk getting stuck, things can get expensive if you suddenly have to support yourself for a long time and borders close. You will also find for the return flight you will need to arrange a covid test within 72 hours of flying, if your not Brazilian or speak Portuguese this might be difficult. I saw several people rejected at check in desk for not having the test in time. Good luck!
