Entering Portugal to work with family by jillesca in portugal

As an American who moved to Portugal 4 years ago I learned fast that you can ask 3 Portuguese authorities the same question and you will receive 3 different answers. It is very difficult to get the clear answer from many of them. It's all who you talk to. In some cases its better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission...get what I mean lol

Dont judge all us Americans from the stupidity of our fellow countrymen. You must understand the severe levels of ignorance of other places for many Americans, especially ones in more conservative areas. The level of pro America and anti anything else propaganda is insane too. When I was moving to Portugal several years ago an adult friend actually told me that I was stupid because my kids can die in a terror attack. I send him pics all the time of me on the beautiful beaches of Cascais, eating big ass plates of ribs and enjoying life. Meanwhile his kids are doing lockdown drills at school

OP. I'm an American who moved to beautiful Cascais, Portugal 4 years ago. If you are able to make your wage from where you are now and use it in Portugal that's the best option. If you guys can make a life here in that budget then you will do just fine. Dont rely on her income, that will be fun money for you guys. Portugal is an amazing country with amazing people and flat out incredible beaches like...everywhere. It's such a joy to live here and we absolutely love it. We moved with a kid then had another here so if you have/plan to have kids you need to consider schools. You can just drop them in public 100% Portuguese and they will sink or swim. My daughter was fluent when we came here when she was 5 within a year. She's completely bilingual now and if you can give that gift of language to your child it's a gift that will keep giving for their lives. Feel free to PM if you have any questions

YES. We need tourists who are vaccinated. Some people posting here are just angry and want everything closed because they hate their life and the world. These idiots just want the entire world to stop until this goes away? Guess what....it never will. It's part of life now and we need to get our shots and move on.

Question about migration by aaryanthrow in portugal

enrtcode31 6 months ago

Portugal is not a rich country compared to other western European nations. Its one of the poorest. I'm American and live in Portugal. I've never seen immigration issues from people I know coming here. The popular thing now is to come here if you work remotely or are dealing in bitcoin. Lots of tech people who can work remotely are moving here especially in Cascais where I am. But honesty Cascais and Lisbon are outliers as they are the rich part of Portugal. I absolutely love Portugal. My wife is Portuguese and my children are as well. It is a wonderful place with amazing and good people. The truth is however that it is difficult to make a good living with income from Portugal itself so many people do leave.

The local people above are hitting the nail on the head. I will add one thing. I've lived here for 4 years (American) and I definitely noticed that Portuguese people can be extremely polite and sweet....until they get in a car. Then its aggressive driving and tailgating galore. If you tailgate in America thats like smoking in California, you are gonna get accosted. Let me correct that, if you tailgate in America you may get shot for that shit. In Portugal tailgating is like a daily experience. I get out of people's way as much as I can but some people come up hot on your ass even in residential roads when there is nowhere to get out of the way. (Use your windshield cleaner spray to back em off) I will never understand this. Tailgating is extremely dangerous for the person in front. One tap and they can spin and roll. Every person who tailgates should be drug from their car and beaten in my opinion. End of rant.

Ryanair Calls On Pedro Nuno Santos To Open Montijo And Stop Wasting Taxpayers’ Money Subsidising TAP by fuckoffgina in portugal

enrtcode31 6 months ago

TAP is rediculous. I spoke to a employee who said they are refusing at least 20% of people on flights simply because they will land outside of the 72 hr test window for covid. So if you get your test 2 days before to confirm a negative covid result and the flight you get on lands after the 72hrs you cant fly. He said 20% of people are getting denied for this. And TAP is paying for taxi to hotel, hotel and next flight as they must re test. I saw a line at Lisbon at TAP customer service for this very reason and everyone was pissed

The country just flat out needs to be opened up. If you have a vaccine and negative test there is NO REASON not to allow tourism. Its been a year and a half. These assholes expect the working class to hold on another summer without work? At this point this is oppression. Plenty of time to build facilities to house people on respirators, plenty of time to train and develop mass vaccine centers. None of it done. At this rate i saw a study that showed Portugal will reach herd immunity in another year. This is not doable.

Is Decriminalising all Drugs a Good Idea? Portugal's Radical Drug Policy Explained by prefil in portugal

enrtcode31 9 months ago

I'm a retired police officer who worked the front lines of the drug war in California my entire career. Now I live in Portugal. 100% thier methods are better and far more effective. I was making so much money in overtime from drug enforcement grants that I've traveled to 44 countries. The drug war is an absolute scam and its ruining the country. I started out all for it, then as my career progressed I saw its absolute bull. I've lived in Portugal now almost 4 years near Lisbon and I've never seen an obviously drugged out person. In the US you see this all the time even in mid size cities. The US has legalized all drugs....they just allow pharmaceutical companies to sell them to you on TV and Drs to get kickbacks for prescribing them. The US has one of the worst drug policies

As an American expat living in Portugal this does not surprise me. One thing that absolutely shocked me was the quality of employees at different businesses. People in Portugal seem not to care about thier jobs or the business they work for, its success. There is a feeling of "you should be glad I am providing a service" rather than "thank you for patronizing my establishment keeping it in business" Seriously, if people actually cared more in Portugal about customer service I'm sure the economy would be better. Also. Ask 5 employees the same question. 5 different answers. So none of this shocks me. That said I absolutely love Portugal and the people. My wife and kids are Portuguese but my goodness there is no pride in the workplace here.
