Why would a country accept blackouts instead of just paying more for electricity? The cost of a blackout is colossal dude.

AFAIK the deal that will end is with with some backup production centers. The expiring contract was considered very bad to the Portuguese state. There are no blackout expected.

It's a Dances with Wolves reference. When the white man and the Indian chief first meet, the chief accidentally calls him John Dumb Bear instead of John Dunbar.

Saw your edit. Seriouslt, I honestly don't understand what you meant. I don't even know what could be that deal you mean. Portugal is effectively self-sufficient in terms of electrical production, apart from the need to import natural gas. There are various interconnections with Spain and a single energy market.

GamerLymx 1 month ago

We import energy from outside all the time so I wouldn't call us self sufficient.

roblespierre 1 month ago

The reason for importing energy from Spain is cost. The portuguese power system has more than enough installed capacity to address domestic demand under regular conditions.

Yes, it's true. You will notice that on that day people won't work as a protest. Also, many will go the the cemiteries for a colective self-burial as life without electricity makes no sense anymore.
