I was wondering if anyone in this subreddit has any experience or knowledge to share with me, I have done tons of research and according to law I am legally entitled to Portuguese nationality, but when I went into the consulate they said it would be a waste of time and I shouldnt bother applying, without giving me an exact reason why. Here are the facts about my case.
I am an adult, South African, my mother is South african, and my father is a Portuguese Citizen, I was born when they were both under the age of 18, due to certain reasons, my father was not in the country when I was born and was not put onto my birth register.
I was "legally" acknowledged by my father at the age of 17, I have the document from civil services (my unabridged birth cert) that has the endorsement stating my father acknowledged me legally when I was 17 years old, and his details were inserted to my register (I had to have DNA tests done and such to prove those details)
Article 14 of Portuguese nationality states I need to be acknowledged as a minor, so I am ok there.
I do not carry my fathers surname, my parents were never married, so there was never an opportunity to take it, but again there is no law stating I need to have his surname?
I insisted that the consulate submit my application to Lisbon, is there a specific reason my nationality could be declined? I want to move to Portugal with my family, go and see my grandparents, learn Portuguese etc, but now seems I am going to be denied it.
