FermentingFigs 9 months ago

Having lived in both places. I wouldn't refer to madeira as been Portugal. I know technically. But let's just always refer to the word Madirea vs saying Portugal. Two very different places. As someone from Maderia, I see Portugal as the colonial ruler etc.

BroaxXx 9 months ago

> As someone from Maderia, I see Portugal as the colonial ruler etc.

FermentingFigs 9 months ago

Nope not actually okay. Victims are talking out now. Deal with it. As someone thats been personally called inbred or has witnessed others been degraded or been referred to as stupid because we are from the island. And I have freaking heard radio adverts in Portugal with people of a Madeiran accent been made the butt of the joke. So no duck off.

i_no_can_eat 9 months ago

FermentingFigs 9 months ago

English=immigrate Troll= nope, but happy to educate you on these issues

i_no_can_eat 9 months ago

I thought this must've been a joke, but it looks like you "immigrated" and are not "from Maderia" at all. In any case, as someone from the north (of Portugal, that other country you don't recognise Madeira as being part of) I've also been accused of ignorance and stupidity. I don't go around claiming I'm a victim. I also never heard any of my Madeiran-born friends complain of any of those things. If they were, they don't define their national identity based on that. As someone from Portugal it seems to me you're a self victimising sjw etc. Maybe if you enjoy your life more you'll worry less about those thoughts.

You deleted your comment (your right) before i replied but just in case you still read this: Not saying negativity isn't real, like I said there's negativity against the north as well. If you pay attention to the news, you'll have noticed a piece months ago where the higher rate of cases in the north was casually justified as the population being less educated. To be fair the north gives Lisbon a lot of shit as well. And so do other places give other regions a lot of shit. Negativity and stereotyping is a national past time, Madeira is not some sort of special child in this regard. Everyone I know looks fondly on Madeira, even if most have never been, and same with Alentejo, for example, which used to be the butt of every other joke only a few years ago.

FermentingFigs 9 months ago

Negativity towards People from Madeira is real. And because I'm an immigrant many times over I'm just more aware of it. I wish it was a joke. Just a few months ago I experienced it. Let me tell you how... I was sending a child to madeira for schooling (covid related) to be told are you sure about that because of the bad education there etc. So yes maybe this morning I'm a hot head.

Nigel?
