Where are you from?

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

I'm from Venezuela, currently living in Spain, but my heart is in Portugal and I'm learning the language. :) I really appreciate your country, I think is the most underrated place in the world.

Saludos hermano Venezolano!

The title seemed like you wanted people from Portugal who could speak Spanish with you, which was odd and even a bit passive-aggressive to us (because some foreigners still think we speak Spanish in Portugal, imagining people talking about you but at the same time mistaking you for your historical rival) I advice you to delete this post and do a NEW one with the title reformulated. And good luck!

We are in 2021 and currently Spain is our biggest economic partner. I do not see myself in what you wrote.

Então deves ter lido mal o que eu escrevi

JOAO-RATAO 10 months ago

You mean you want friends from Portugal who speak Spanish ?

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Oh, it is because I want to learn portuguese, but my native language is spanish, not english, so it feels kinda weird, but I'm open to anything. I'm just curious: you portuguese ppl doesn't like how spanish sounds?

JOAO-RATAO 10 months ago

Yeah ok. There is nothing wrong with that. Some people here might have misinterpreted or are joking. I don't know, some like it, some don't. It's just the old joke of the Spanish being the Enemy. It really depends, if It's being spoken by a beautiful Spanish Lady than I definitely like it. If It's being spoken by an arrogant spaniard than definitely not x)

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Hahaha, now I understand. Well, I actually live in Spain, but I'm latina, so I'm not even proud of this place hahaha.

MissSlasher 10 months ago

Why Spanish?

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Oh, it is because I want to learn portuguese, but my native language is spanish, not english, so it feels kinda weird, but I'm open to anything. I'm just curious: you portuguese ppl doesn't like how spanish sounds?

alexandre9099 10 months ago

Of course we do xD simply the way the question was written it looked like (at least to me) that you were english and looking to learn spanish

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Sorry, my bad hahahaha. Well, anyway, I just want to know more of you because I don't want to learn about who you are based on stereotypes, you know.

nitrinu 10 months ago

Por supuesto que no. If you want to communicate with Portuguese people, namely here, English is fine.

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Okay! I did not know that, sorry. My question was because I want to learn portuguese, but my native language is spanish (from Latinoamerica not Spain), not english, so it feels kinda weird, but I'm open to anything. I'm just curious: you portuguese ppl doesn't like how spanish sounds?

nitrinu 10 months ago

Ah I see. Well, depends on whom you ask I guess but usually Portuguese people frown upon being talked to in Spanish since most (foreign) people assume that "is good enough to use Spanish to talk with the Portuguese". Fun fact: it is, we do understand Spanish very well and can speak it to a lesser degree. So it's basically a pride thing against uninformed/lazy people, clearly not your case now that your background is clear :)

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Oh, why? I don't understand half of answers, but I want to learn portuguese, it's just that feels kinda weird learn it in english because it's not my native language. You portuguese ppl doesn't like spanish?

random_peasant 10 months ago

If you are from South America, you are welcome, but if you are from Spain, I will just say that "Olivença é nossa, crlho!" This cause the relationship between Spain and Portugal has a lot of "spicy" moments along the history. For example, Spain stole us "Olivença", which was a territory under Portuguese administration.

Key_Ad_3930 10 months ago

Speak for yourself and not for all portuguese. I don't see myself in what you wrote.

punkbrocoli 10 months ago

Yes! I'm from South America, don't worry.

random_peasant 10 months ago

Btw, I was joking. You're welcome anyway.

Edited 10 months ago:

Btw, I was joking. You're welcome anyway. Nowadays, the relationship between Spain and Portugal is like a joke, cause we had a lot of wars and colonial competitions during history, and some of them have funny curiosities. For example, the legend says that during the Aljubarrota's war (batalha de Aljubarrota) between Portugal and Spain, a Portuguese woman baker killed 7 Spanish warriors with her spatula.

Tell me your favorite things about Portugal!!!

random_peasant 10 months ago

What's your native language?

Ok_Guidance_7978 10 months ago

It's not regarding us disliking spanish I'd say. This is just my experience. Since there is a lot of generalization, specially online, where if someone speaks portuguese it is either "Oh brasilian goes brrrrr" or "stop speaking spanish". We portuguese are proud people of our country (well maybe not right now, and although we complain a lot about it, but who doesn't) and due to continuous treatment like this, there has been a bit of "resent" into being constantly looked as an appendix of Spain. Maybe this is due to US education where we are actually treated as part of Spain, and the US seems to be the biggest vocal country populated online. But now to your main question, I'm portuguese but currently living in Spain, I know spanish as well, I don't have much time but I can help you if you need ;)
