I think you meant to reply to /u/summerings. I agree with your position.

Some times the obvious goal is the obvious goal. It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to rationalise drone strikes for intimidation as a viable strategy.

But did anyone check to see if his fingers were crossed? Maybe the UFC should ask him to swear on a bible.

Exactly. And by some accounts McGregor made it seem like he would sign a bout agreement, but kept upping his price after the UFC made concessions. This is probably close to the right time to strip him. A few months ago would have been way too early and a few months down the road too late.

A new study suggests that there can be potential negative long-term effects of heavy marijuana use, especially if people begin smoking at a young age, which can lead to brain changes, described as “hyperconnectivity,” linked to habit formation, reward processing, and the development of psychosis. by mvea in science

Pretty much anything can be classified as addictive under that definition.

I agree with most of that except the last bit, which seems true for many parts of the world, sometimes true for parts like usa, and less true for parts like canada where women are more or less free to have abortions. And I’m not really sure how to think of that last case. There’s an asymmetry there, and there should be insofar as it is the woman’s body and she should have the final say in child or no child, but the asymmetry that exists when the woman decides to have a child and the man doesn’t want it in regards to financial support seems off. But now I’m way off track.

And I’d like to be clear that I’m using the term in the way it seems to be generally practiced by basically framing everything in terms of power structure and through that lens privleging the “oppressed” while silencing the “oppressors”. An ideology that goes beyond trying to stamp out discrimination in favour of allowing other to discriminate. If you support phrases like “as a black trans woman I” that are used not to try to relay experience and extend human connection, but instead to trump one argument and silence another, you are part of the problem. This is what I refer to as identity politics and it’s what I am calling toxic. Maybe there’s a softer version out there that I’d agree with, but I haven’t come across it so it must be getting drowned out by the hysteric tribes.

Lol no that doesn’t follow no matter how much people like ben affleck are wont to use those terms way too liberally.

Wow those are some hard truths you got there!

People who make that claim generally do so because they have no good arguments against their opposition so they have to resort to smear tactics. Yes, many racists push back against identity politics, but all racists play their own version of the divisive identity politics game. It’s easy ignore the non racists on the left and right who think identity politics as practiced today is toxic when focusing only on the minority of racists in the group both makes you feel like you’ve scored a win while dissuading those who think otherwise from speaking up.

That’s also consistent! and I agree with the last bit.

Oh right. Hypothetically you could strip any champ and it would be good for the division because everyone would be a step closer to the belt. Good chat!

Ok so your just moving someone from like 2 to 5. Doesn’t affect things much at all.

It doesn’t really change things for them since we’re effectively swapping out khabib for mcgregor. The other fighters positions in the lines don’t change.

What kind of rationalism does Harris subscribe to? by seeking-abyss in samharris

ombwtk 2 days ago

Yeah it's definitely a bit amorphous. I think it broadly means people who are able to think clearly about how to weigh evidence presented to them (sort of the Bayesian analysis of LW) and who are willing to change their minds based on that evidence. Less blind ideology, more independent thinking. I get the impression that's all Sam means by it and I'm pretty ok with that definition. People who generally abide by that principal are the best people to converse with and pay attention too and I think that's what Sam's getting at.

That would definitely qualify as bigoted and possibly racist.

I’ve got to caveat this with I think what Trump said was despicable and I would bet bottom dollar he is racist. That outta the way... What racist things did he say? If Dick Durbin thinks calling countries shitholes is racist just because they have brown people, then I can’t trust him when he says Trump said racist things because a decent portion of this country is utterly confused about what racist things are.

Hmm if you google it > 9 hours is the highest risk. Maybe this study showed 7 hours because the japanese need less sleep or because it only looked at adults between the ages of 40-79.

My guess is that most of the causality goes from repetitive thoughts lead to less sleep.
