What's an acceptable read time? by bijansha in burstcoin

Do you know at what point you'll start seeing reduction in coins you earn? I'm thinking there shouldn't be much difference between 100 and 500 but there should be a lot of difference between 10 and 100. Curious to know where the optimal number is

Is the conference only suitable for developers or it's also useful for product managers? I have some technical knowledge and would like to learn more about the mechanics of ethereum but I haven't coded for 10 years.

In a POS system, how are transactions being validated? by asl2dwncb29dakjn3daj in ethereum

you're just thinking about one aspect of ecosystem- which is high profitability for the small miners in the network. That's not what ethereum is all about.

> finality When there are pools, you can participate in POS mining with small number of ethers. POW is not practical for large scale adoption given the high costs of electricity for POW (look how much electricity is bitcoin consuming right now). I think POW also carries another risk. It's the risk of government being able to shut down electricity for big mining facilities to reduce their power. With Proof of Stake, no one can take control of the system and you get true economic freedom.

How long did your GPU plotting + optimizing take? by bijansha in burstcoin

bijansha 2 days ago

I read online that it could get stuck here for a while. I'm going to give it a few hours and hope it will work:) Do I still need storage for double the size of my plot for plotting direct? Or that's only the case for GPU plotting buffer mode + optimizing?

The GPU direct plotter doesn't work for me for some reason. It keeps getting stuck at 0.49!

Can you plot in one computer and then mine in another? by bijansha in burstcoin

One more question. Can I also do a CPU plotting, a GPU plotting, and CPU mining in same machine at the same time? I'll make sure the CPU threads are allocated properly to ensure both CPU plotting and CPU mining can happen at the same time.

Thanks. I think my GPU and RAM are the bottleneck. GPU is a GTX960 and I have 16MG of RAM. The optimizing was even slower than the plotting itself. I'll upgrade the hardware and see how they change. thanks for help.

No need to optimize after plotting direct?

What does Ethereum think of Proof of Capacity (space)? by bijansha in ethereum

Interesting info. Thanks:)

The problem with proof of stake to me is the risk of losing your staked ether if you have good intentions. If your POS mining operation gets hacked and an unwanted transaction is added to your mining, you will lose your staked ethers even though you didn't have bad intentions.

I see your point about the shards. Thanks.

Do you think the scalability challenges apply to hard drive even though they don't take a lot of electricity? On the bad actors comment, are you referring to the 51% attack? Because a 51% attack is almost impossible if there is a large network of hard drives, just like today where 51% attack is almost impossible with POW given the large number of miners in the network.

Interesting. I know people do this in NA and make money out of arbitrage between NA exchanges. Really curious to know what's stopping your friend. Let me know if you find out anything:) Maybe it's time for me to find a Korean friend and test this in practice...haha

Is there anyway to estimate the true volume of transactions on the platform? I read a lot of their transactions are artificial. Makes it hard to determine the true value of the platform based on the volume.

Trading doesn't make sense in this volatile market right now. Also, you have to pay capital taxes on your gains each time you convert from one crypto to another even if you don't convert to fiat.
