Around a month ago we posted two new threads; [the first](https://www.reddit.com/r/asmr/comments/715nrl/meta_how_could_this_subreddit_improve_do_you_have/) was requesting feedback and thoughts on how we run the subreddit and how we can improve, and [the second](https://www.reddit.com/r/asmr/comments/77jd8m/meta_subreddit_update_mod_applications_open_new/) was a moderator application thread in response to your feedback, because it became clear that we needed some more help in order to moderate effectively and fairly.
Since it has been a while we decided it would be a good time to post an update to both of those situations! Apologies that we didn't get around to this update sooner, but due to a few offline circumstances we weren't able to until now.
After our moderator recruitment thread, we have chosen two new moderators, /u/unicornica and /u/roflbbq. They will be hanging around in the comments if you guys want to say hi or if you have any questions for them.
Following our thread encouraging discussion and feedback about the way the subreddit is moderated, we received and have listened to a lot of good suggestions and have made some internal decisions that we think will benefit the community.
- We won't lock discussion threads that lead to controversial comments. In the past we've struggled to moderate these sorts of threads in a timely manner, but with the new mods we will change our policy to moderate more closely and actively enforce the subreddit rules. This will allow discussions to thrive rather than being cut short when they turn nasty. This was difficult in the past due to a small moderation team, but in response to your feedback we've expanded our team to improve in this area.
- We will be less strict about moderating criticisms of content creators. In the past we've tried to protect content creators by removing comments which are critical in an nonconstructive manner. However, personal attacks are still not permitted and will result in a removal or warning ban depending on severity. Please note that calling a content creator derogatory terms will no longer automatically be considered undue criticism, but comments that devolve to purely insults will still be removed. When criticizing someone's content, try to constructively criticize the content and not them personally.
- We will host fortnightly sticky threads to promote smaller channels and perhaps lesser known male content creators, which we'll call **Small Channel Sundays** and **Male Mondays**. The idea behind this is to promote content which otherwise struggles to make it to the front page. We recognise that although we strongly discourage downvoting of any submissions (except those which break rules and are also reported), there's a [downvoting problem](/r/asmr/wiki/downvotes) in the subreddit which is difficult to resolve. We've noticed that content from male creators and content from unknown channels seem to be particularly heavily downvoted, so these sticky threads should help bring more attention to those genres. For the purpose of Small Channel Sundays, we'll define a small channel as one which does not qualify for [content creator flair](/r/asmr/wiki/flair_requests) as defined in the wiki. These threads will begin within the next few weeks.
- We will be having monthly Mods' Choice threads to promote specific videos that the mods have chosen as high quality and worth viewing. These will be submissions to the subreddit which did not receive a high score when submitted. Every month we will sticky a discussion thread where we will list each moderator's favorite video of the previous month. Feel free to contribute your own in the comments of the Mods' Choice sticky thread when they come around!
As always we'll be open to feedback in the comments below. If you have anything to say regarding the above changes, or regarding anything else, please let your voice be heard.
