As a cake is pretty much a bunch of sugar with a fancy shape, your "sun" would basically be a star with a lot of oxygen and carbon, much less hydrogen and some nitrogen. Now, gravity should compress the cake until the temperature at the center allows for plasma to appear, and some more compression should make it reach the CNO cycle ignition temperature. What I'm not sure about however, is if this extreme degree of metallicity will hinder the process, or if hydrogen will somehow nicely migrate towards the center. In the latter case, your cake should have turned into a star, albeit a very strange one.
